You have probly just the one; in slot 0 on yr motherboard. To make sure this drive has been selected to boot from first in the boot order. Take out any floppy disks from the floppy drive if this.

Serial Ata Disc Drive

History: I purchased a Dell Optiplex Gx280 computer from a company that was upgrading their systems. They told me that it did not have a hard drive in it and that to save time they had removed the hard drives. I installed a hard drive and booted up the computer. It does have what seems to be a built in hard drive and it booted up to the original hard drive, not the one that I installed. It is password protected and I could not log in because of the password.
I formatted the hard drive and attempted to install Windows Xp. I got the message' the file on Windows Xp Professional Service Pack 2CD is needed.' and I could not find the file. I found instructions on finding the file but only go so far. The issue has changed due to my trying to make it work.
Now when the system boots the message is 'Drive not Found: Serial ATA SATA-2 Strike F1 key to continue. F2 to run setup utility'. When I select F1 Window XP will 'continue the installation' up to the point of preparing the installation screen. Then it crashes.. When I select F2 to run setup, it goes into the setup. I changed drive settings after disconnecting one hard drive then the other. That did not work either.
I need help.
