Acronis Media Builder Tool



You can create a rescue bootable media - a standalone version of Acronis True Image that you can use to boot a crashed machine or a machine without any operating system and restore an image of your system. Follow these instructions to create a bootable media.

How to create Acronis Bootable Rescue Media on a Windows computer

There are three ways to initiate this Acronis activity. You may choose any one of the three below: 1. Click Create Bootable Rescue Media on the toolbar or the sidebar 2. Select Create Bootable Rescue Media from the Tools menu 3. Run the Bootable Rescue Media Builder without loading Acronis True Image Motion Computing Edition by selecting. To launch bootable media builder, click Tools - Acronis Bootable Media Builder in the main window of Acronis Disk Director 12.5 or select Acronis Bootable Media Builder on the Tools panel on the left: Click Next on the welcome screen. On the next step you need to select whether to create Linux-based media or WinPE-based media.

Symptoms

1. Acronis Backup 12.5 and Acronis Disk Director 12.5 are installed on the same machine

2. You try to create Acronis Bootable Media with all components:

  • Acronis Backup
  • Acronis Universal Restore
  • Acronis Disk Director 12.5 (32-bit)
  • Acronis Disk Director 12.5 (64-bit)

3. Bootable media creation fails with the following error message:

Introduction

Acronis Bootable Media builder offers new bootable media creation modes: 'Simple' and 'Advanced'. Simple media creation mode requires minimum user interaction and is recommended as the default choice.

Because Acronis products work with the storage system of an operating system on a very low level, there is a small risk that different conflicts on this level can lead to an operating system crash during backup or other operations. Create Acronis Bootable Media

Under specific circumstances, the software may crash. It is very important to report a crash instead of trying to workaround it. Normal workflow for a crash problem is the following:

To launch bootable media builder, click Tools -> Acronis Bootable Media Builder in the main window of Acronis Disk Director 12.5 or select Acronis Bootable Media Builder on the Tools panel on the left:

Click Next on the welcome screen.

On the next step you need to select whether to create Linux-based media or WinPE-based media. Further steps depend on which option you choose:

Acronis Media Builder Tools

  1. Select the way volumes and network resources will be handled—called the media style:
    • A media with Linux-style volume handling displays the volumes as, for example, hda1 and sdb2.
    • A media with Windows-style volume handling displays the volumes as, for example, C: and D:.
  2. [optional] On this step you can specify Linux kernel parameters, e.g. for better compatibility with certain hardware. For a list of available parameters, see Linux Kernel parameters.
  3. Select the bootable components to be placed on the media:
  4. Select the type of media to create. You can:
    • create CD, DVD or other bootable media such as removable USB flash drive if the hardware BIOS allows for boot from such media
    • build an ISO image of a bootable disc to burn it later on to a blank disc
  5. [optional] For better compatibility with your hardware, you can select mass storage device drivers to be added to the media
  6. Check all details and click Proceed to create bootable media

Acronis True Image Bootable Media

WinPE-based media: click to expand instructions
  1. Select bootable media type: Windows PE
  2. If you do not have Windows AIK installed on the machine, you will be offered to download and install it. If you have Windows AIK already installed, the product will automatically detect it.
  3. Select Create WinPE automatically:
  4. WinPE preparation will start:
  5. [optional] For better compatibility with your hardware, you can select mass storage device drivers to be added to the media. Generally, you need the add drivers option only if you have compatibility issues with the machine's hardware and the WinPE media.
  6. Select the type of media to create.

    You will generally need to select an the ISO image option.

  7. After selecting where to save the image file, review the details and click Proceed:
  8. Once the WinPE media image is created, burn it to a disc. See Burning an ISO Image;

If you have Acronis True Image 2019, you can create a multi-product Linux-based bootable media with Acronis Disk Director 12.5 if they are installed on the same Windows machine. Use the media builder provided with Acronis Disk Director to create this media.
